What is straw marquetry?

Straw marquetry is a decorative art in which rye straw is flattened, split and assembled to create patterns. Its naturally satin-like lustre catches the light differently according to the direction in which each strand is laid, giving the finished work its distinctive depth. Every Atelier Mayati piece is made entirely by hand.

Are your pieces unique?

Yes. Every artwork and piece of jewellery is one of a kind and made by hand. Slight variations in colour, pattern or dimensions are natural and are part of the character of handcrafted straw marquetry.

Is the straw dyed?

The palette combines the natural tones of rye straw with straw dyed throughout the fibre. Colours remain stable over time provided the piece is protected from prolonged direct sunlight.

How do I care for a straw marquetry piece?

Dust gently with a soft, dry cloth, or use a soft brush on textured areas. Avoid water, household cleaning products, excessive humidity and prolonged direct sunlight. For jewellery, remove the piece before washing your hands, bathing or applying perfume.

Are the artworks (portraits, compositions, furniture) for sale?

Selected original works are available for acquisition. When a piece is for sale, an “Acquire this artwork” panel appears on its page. As each work is unique, the purchase is arranged directly with the studio. Worldwide shipping is available and quoted individually according to the destination and dimensions of the piece.

How do I buy a piece of jewellery from the shop?

Open the jewellery page, select your delivery zone (France or Europe), then pay securely online by card. Payments are processed by Stripe and your order is confirmed by email.

Is online payment secure?

Yes. Payments are processed securely by Stripe, a recognised payment provider. Your card details are encrypted and are never stored by Atelier Mayati.

What are the delivery times and costs?

For jewellery purchased through the shop — France: Mondial Relay home delivery €4.99 (3–5 working days) or Colissimo home delivery €5.49 (48 hours). Europe (European Union, Switzerland and the United Kingdom): Colissimo €14.99 (approximately 5 days). Delivery times are calculated from dispatch and confirmed at checkout; full details are set out in the terms of sale. Artworks — portraits, compositions and furniture — are purchased directly from the studio and can be shipped worldwide, with delivery quoted individually.

How does a made-to-order commission work?

Select and pay for the bespoke option in the shop; this payment reserves the commission. The studio will then contact you to define the details together — support, colours and pattern — before making the piece. As bespoke creations are personalised, the statutory right of withdrawal does not apply.

Can I return an item?

For jewellery purchased through the shop, you have a 14-day statutory right of withdrawal from receipt of the order. Personalised bespoke creations cannot be returned, except in the event of a defect. Full details are set out in the terms of sale.

Do you offer straw marquetry classes?

Yes. The studio offers introductory and multi-day straw marquetry workshops. Formats, levels and locations are detailed on the Workshops page.
